Key Technologies for the Energy Transition<\/h2>\n

Green hydrogen is an energy carrier with high gravimetric energy density\u2014and thus a key component for the storage and industrial use of electricity from renewable energy sources.<\/p>\n

When electricity generation from wind and solar sources is high, wind and solar power plants in this country still often have to be curtailed. In countries like Morocco, where wind and solar energy are available in abundance, this energy potential cannot easily be transported to industrialized nations. <\/p>\n

The solution: Through electrolysis, renewable electricity can be converted into hydrogen\u2014a molecule that can be stored and transported and has a wide range of applications. Its use produces no CO\u2082 emissions; over their entire life cycle, RFNBO plants achieve a greenhouse gas reduction of at least 70 percent compared to fossil hydrogen. <\/p>\n

This green hydrogen can serve as an energy source or replace fossil fuels in energy-intensive industries such as steel, glass, paper, or cement.<\/p>\n

Hydrogen can be transported via pipeline over shorter distances. For maritime transport, it is converted on site into derivatives that can be stored and exported, such as ammonia or methanol\u2014a process known as Power-to-X (PtX) that forms the basis for the decarbonization of industry and transportation. <\/p>\n
