The project is part of a strategic partnership with the Mauritanian government and is part of the country&#8217;s national hydrogen strategy. The aim is to provide competitive green molecules for international customer markets based on excellent wind and solar resources and thus contribute to the decarbonization of energy-intensive industries.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_small\"><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h3><b>Key data on the NAYRAH project<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Large-scale modular power-to-X project developed in Mauritania<\/li>\n<li>Start with a first fast-track module with an <strong data-start=\"2064\" data-end=\"2094\">electrolysis capacity<\/strong> of around <strong data-start=\"2064\" data-end=\"2094\">100 MW<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Expansion to initially <strong data-start=\"2136\" data-end=\"2165\">1 GW electrolysis capacity<\/strong>, followed by further scaling<\/li>\n<li>Target production of up to <strong data-start=\"2196\" data-end=\"2233\">140,000 tons of green hydrogen<\/strong> per year<\/li>\n<li>Resulting in up to <strong data-start=\"2265\" data-end=\"2299\">600,000 tons of green ammonia<\/strong> annually<\/li>\n<li>Planned start of production from <strong data-start=\"2344\" data-end=\"2352\">2029<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Project area<\/strong> of approximately 50,000 hectares (<strong>500 km\u00b2<\/strong>) provisionally allocated in the framework agreement for the first phase of expansion, with 1 GW of electrolysis capacity; <strong>potential for expansion to approximately 1,600 km\u00b2<\/strong> in the fully expanded phase<\/li>\n<li>Integrated <strong>seawater desalination<\/strong> system for process water supply, powered by the project\u2019s own renewable energy generation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Special features<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"2629\" data-end=\"2771\"><strong data-start=\"2631\" data-end=\"2659\">Modular project approach:<\/strong> Nayrah is being developed in stages and can be flexibly adapted to market and infrastructure developments.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2772\" data-end=\"2960\"><strong data-start=\"2774\" data-end=\"2812\">Site Conditions:<\/strong> The area east of Nouadhibou features a combination of high and consistent wind speeds and strong solar radiation, which allows for largely continuous electrolysis operations throughout the year.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2961\" data-end=\"3197\"><strong>Water and Land Use Plan:<\/strong> Water demand will be met entirely through seawater desalination, without drawing on local freshwater resources. Land allocation is carried out within the framework of the agreement concluded with the Mauritanian government; existing land-use rights are coordinated with the national authorities. Byproducts from electrolysis and desalination are evaluated for potential uses.  <\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3198\" data-end=\"3452\"><strong data-start=\"3200\" data-end=\"3243\">Strategic international involvement:<\/strong> The project was launched as part of high-level political and economic cooperation between Mauritania, Germany and European partners.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Target markets &amp; benefits<\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">With <strong>NAYRAH<\/strong>, M\u00f6hring Energie is addressing the growing demand for green hydrogen and green ammonia in Europe. The products are suitable as energy carriers and raw materials for industries such as steel, chemicals, fertilizers, and shipping, where fossil-based feedstocks need to be replaced. The company is responsible for project development, from land and structural development to technical design and the preparation of investment, partner and offtake structures.
