FortaVerde – Green ammonia from Brazil for industry and international markets
Location: Pecém / Ceará / Brazil
Status: In development (Pre-Feed/FEED)
Technologies: renewable energies, electrolysis, ammonia synthesis, modular PtX infrastructure
End product: green ammonia for industrial applications and export markets
Project description
FortaVerde is Möhring Energie’s PtX project in Brazil for the production of green ammonia based on renewable energies. The project is designed as a modular, scalable plant and combines technological feasibility with a clear focus on international sales markets and industrial decarbonization.
The first expansion stage of FortaVerdeZero as a pilot plant will lay the foundation for the reliable production of green molecules in a market with very good conditions for renewable energies and an existing port infrastructure for export logistics. With a projected 12 MW electrolysis capacity and a planned production of around 7,000 tons of green ammonia per year, this is the first stage of the larger PtX plant, which is to be gradually expanded to a capacity of 10 GW and is geared towards long-term industrial partnerships, international supply chains and the growing demand for climate-friendly raw materials.
Special features
- Modular development approach: FortaVerde is designed in such a way that the project can be developed and expanded in manageable steps. This reduces barriers to market entry and at the same time creates flexibility for growth.
- Industrial orientation: The project is not only geared towards production, but also towards practical integration into real industrial acceptance structures.
- International supply chains: FortaVerde connects the Brazilian site with European target markets and potential as well as already secured off-takers.
- Technology partnerships: Project development takes into account the involvement of German technology providers and industrial partners along the PtX value chain.
- Scalability: The first project phase serves as a reliable basis for later expansion and the establishment of a larger production cluster.
Special features
- Holistic system approach: production, storage, conversion and export in an integrated project approach
- Locally anchored – internationally networked: close cooperation with national authorities, communities and industry partners
- Scalability: Design as a scalable blueprint for further PtX hubs in North Africa
Target markets and benefits
With FortaVerde, Möhring Energie is addressing the growing demand for green ammonia as a climate-friendly energy source and raw material. The project is particularly interesting for industrial applications in which fossil molecules need to be gradually replaced.
The relevant target markets include industrial customers and logistics locations in Europe, supported by partnerships with the ports of Rotterdam and Duisport. FortaVerde thus contributes to building resilient international supply chains for green molecules and supports the decarbonization of sectors such as steel, chemicals, fertilizers and energy supply.
