Mauritania as a guest

Mauritania as a guest in Hamburg

Ambassador Dr. Boubacar Kane and a high-ranking Mauritanian delegation visit Möhring Energie in Hamburg

Within just a few hours, Möhring Energie welcomed two high-ranking visitor groups from Mauritania to its Hamburg site in Laeiszhof – a sign of the growing intensity of bilateral cooperation in the field of renewable energies and Power-to-X.

His Excellency Dr. Boubacar Kane, Mauritanian Ambassador to Germany, kicked things off. The discussion focused on current developments in the NAYRAH project – Möhring Energy’s large-scale PtX project in Mauritania for the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia. NAYRAH is the first framework project completed by a German company under Mauritania’s national hydrogen law. The ambassador’s visit underlined the diplomatic backing that is essential for the further development of such projects.

Möhring Energie then welcomed a delegation of around 20 experts who were on a six-day study tour through Germany as part of a GIZ train-the-trainers program in the field of renewable power-to-X – with stops in Hamburg, Berlin, Salzgitter, Duisburg and Cologne. The program was designed and implemented by GIZ together with professors from the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg).

Our CEO Jan-Christoph Block welcomed the guests with introductory words before Ambassador Dr. Kane took the floor with an opening address. Tim Huesmann, Head of Sales & Finance, and Duc Dung Hoang, PtX Process Engineer, then presented the NAYRAH project from two perspectives: technical conception and strategic project development. The aim was to provide the delegation with concrete insights into the practical implementation of a large-scale PtX plant with a focus on green ammonia.

The delegation was made up of experts from various Mauritanian institutions – including the Ministry of Energy, the regulatory authority ARE, the state mining company SNIM, the autonomous port of Nouakchott (PANPA), the investment promotion agency APIM as well as academic institutions and consulting firms. The group was accompanied by GIZ employees from the International PtX Hub and the ProH2 Mauritania program.

The evening ended with a dinner together – and conversations that went far beyond the official program.

Möhring Energie would like to thank GIZ for the excellent organization and all participants for their commitment and curiosity. The development of a green hydrogen economy needs precisely this kind of exchange – between practitioners, science and politics, across borders.
