This time with Minister Wadephul in Mauritania

24. July 2026

Founder and CEO Sascha Möhring accompanied the foreign minister on his third visit to Africa this year

Our founder and CEO, Sascha Möhring, was part of the German business delegation that accompanied Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul to Mauritania on July 20 and 21, 2026. This was already the foreign minister’s third trip to Africa this year, following visits to Ethiopia and Kenya in January and Morocco in April.

Mauritania has been a focus for Möhring Energie since June 2025. This early engagement culminated in November 2025 with the signing of a framework agreement with the Mauritanian government for the development of PtX plants, making Möhring Energie the first German company ever to do so. This demonstrates the capacity and willingness to act on both sides. At the heart of the initiative is the NAYRAH project, designed for an electrolysis capacity of at least 1 GW for the production of green hydrogen.

During the visit, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul emphasized Mauritania’s role as an emerging energy power as well as the country’s stability in a region marked by unrest—a country with a population of just 5 million that has taken in more than 300,000 refugees from Mali. He reaffirmed Germany’s support for Mauritania’s continued development, particularly in the expansion of infrastructure and the economy, as well as in the areas of renewable energy and green molecules.

Möhring Energie looks forward to continuing this partnership and to NAYRAH’s ongoing contribution to Mauritania’s energy future.

Building a green hydrogen economy requires precisely this kind of exchange—between practitioners, the scientific community, and policymakers, across borders.
